Vaughn is expected to miss 4–6 weeks after he undergoes hamate surgery on Monday. He suffered the injury during Thursday’s season-opening rout of the White Sox. The 27-year-old former third-overall pick hit .308 with nine homers in 64 games for Milwaukee last year to emerge as their everyday first baseman. It’s a significant loss for the Brewers since he’ll likely be sidelined until at least early May. It’ll be some combination of Gary Sánchez and Jake Bauers taking over at the cold corner with prospect Jeferson Quero coming up to fortify Milwaukee’s catching depth.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #28
“He’s doing much better,” Vogt told reporters on Friday after Bibee was removed from Thursday’s season-opening start against the Mariners with right shoulder inflammation. The 27-year-old right-hander is officially day-to-day for now, but it sounds like there’s a realistic chance he takes the ball on Tuesday night. He’s scheduled to throw a bullpen session this weekend to determine whether he’s ready. It’s a tough spot for fantasy managers since Bibee is likely to have some workload restrictions while also facing an extremely challenging Death Star-caliber lineup. It’s a positive sign that he might avoid a trip to the injured list, but fantasy managers should probably leave him on the bench next week.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #48
DeGrom added that he woke up with neck stiffness and underwent treatment in an effort to start on Saturday against the Phillies before the decision was made to not to take any risks by pushing it. It certainly sounds like things are trending towards the 37-year-old veteran fantasy ace making his season debut during a three-game road series against the Orioles, which gets underway on Monday at Camden Yards. The tentative plan is for him to take the ball on Tuesday after Jack Leiter starts the series opener. Fantasy managers should keep a close eye on the situation but initial reports seem to indicate that this isn’t a potential injured list situation. There should be some additional clarity on his status at some point later this weekend.
  • MIA 1st Baseman #63
The move is now official. De Los Santos will see time at first base for the Marlins with Christopher Morel likely facing a multi-week absence with an oblique strain. The power-hitting 22-year-old’s fantasy stock tumbled last year when he managed just 12 homers in 106 games at the Triple-A level following a 40-homer campaign in the upper minors back in 2024. The massive over-the-fence power remains firmly intact but he’s going to strike out a fair amount, especially as he faces big-league arms for the first time. There’s enough power potential to make De Los Santos interesting in deeper mixed leagues, but a wait-and-see approach feels right in shallow mixers.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #3
After striking out Carlos Santana to begin the frame, Díaz made things interesting by issuing a walk to Alek Thomas. Thomas then swiped second base to get himself into scoring position, but the 32-year-old right-hander battled back to strike out Jordan Lawlar and then got Ketel Marte on a ground ball to end it. As long as he stays healthy, there’s little reason to believe that Díaz won’t finish among the upper echelon closers once again at season’s end.
  • DET Shortstop #7
It looked as though the 21-year-old phenom had connected on his first big league home run in the second inning, only to see Jackson Merrill pull it back from over the center field wall. He still made his mark on the game though. McGonigle strolled to the dish with the bases loaded and two outs in a 2-2 game in the eighth inning. Padres’ skipper Craig Stammen turned to left-hander Wandy Peralta to try to get him out, but McGonigle battled him for 10 pitches, fouling off four two-strike offerings and working the count full before lining a go-ahead two-run single into right field that proved to be the difference. He’s off to a sizzling 5-for-8 (.625) start to his big league career with two runs scored and four RBI.
  • LAA Right Fielder #27
Trout hit his second homer in as many games in the fifth inning to push the Angels’ lead to 5-2. Trout is off to a blazing start through the first two games of the season, going 4-for-6 at the plate while also drawing four walks. It’s only two games, but Trout’s early power display after failing to homer in 41 spring at-bats is encouraging.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #22
Kershaw’s role with the club is mostly unknown at this point and will reportedly remain fluid, but this is a fantastic next step for the legend. Having someone with Kershaw’s experience in the building will always be a plus and it’s wonderful that he can still fulfill a role with the only team he’s ever known even after his playing career ended last season.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #31
Fernando Cruz, Tim Hill, Camilo Doval and David Bednar finished up with 3 2/3 hitless innings. The Yankees wanted to keep Schlittler at 70 or so pitches today, yet he was able to get 16 outs anyway. He recorded four strikeouts with his fastball, which averaged 98.5 mph, and only two of the nine balls in play against him were hit hard. Based on how he’s looked since day one this spring, he should be one of the AL’s better pitchers if he remains healthy.
  • CHC 2nd Baseman #2
That is a lot of money, though deferrals are likely to bring down the present-day value. Hoerner and the Cubs had reportedly agreed to an extension yesterday, but the terms were undisclosed. This is the fourth-largest contract ever given to a second baseman and one that will keep Hoerner in Chicago for the next six years. Hoerner does a lot of things well as an elite defender and fantastic contact hitter. Those just aren’t skills that often age well and the Cubs now have him, Dansby Swanson, and Alex Bregman on long-term contracts that extend well into those players’ 30s.
