It’s an extremely encouraging development that the 29-year-old second baseman managed to avoid a trip to the injured list. He’s gotten off to a sizzling-hot start at the plate in his Mariners debut, hitting .370 (10-for-27) with two homers, four RBI and one steal through eight games.

It’s hardly unprecedented for a top prospect to struggle upon their first exposure to the big leagues, especially one who is still a literal teenager. Griffin is one of the most talented all-around shortstops to debut in years but it might take him some time to find his footing. The 19-year-old prodigy has gone 1-for-9 with two walks and a pair of strikeouts in three games since arriving in the majors last Friday. The Pirates are going to take some of the pressure off him by having him hit near the bottom of the order while he acclimates to everyday life at the highest level.

McGonigle gets a look atop Detroit’s lineup with red-hot Colt Keith being moved to the third spot in the order with veteran Gleyber Torres sandwiched in between. The 21-year-old hitting machine has been a revelation in his first taste of the majors, hitting .303/.410/.455 with four extra-base hits and five RBI through nine games. He’s also walked six times while only striking out five times during that span.

Schneider added that Kirk will undergo a procedure to address a fracture in his left thumb, but isn’t dealing with any ligament damage. There should be a definitive return timeline following the surgery later this week. However, fantasy managers should anticipate a multi-week absence. It’s an encouraging update after the 27-year-old backstop hit the injured list over the weekend after taking a foul tip off his hand during last Friday’s extra-inning game against the White Sox. It’ll be Tyler Heineman handling the catching duties in his absence unless Toronto brings in some additional veteran depth.

Soto said over the weekend that he believed he could avoid the injured list and called himself “day-to-day.” Unfortunately, the injury was more severe than that. The team has said that a typical return for this type of injury is between two and three weeks. The Mets would like Brett Baty to take most of Soto’s innings in left field, but Baty jammed his left thumb on Saturday night and didn’t play on Sunday. Baty was allegedly able to pinch hit, so he should be good to go, which would also open up first base at-bats for Mark Vientos, who has been swinging a hot bat lately.

Well, this is a bummer. Boyd looked good on Wednesday, striking out 10 hitters in a game for the first time since 2019. Apparently, his arm didn’t bounce back well from that injury, so he will land on the IL with Javier Assad starting in his place tomorrow. We should have more information on a timeline for Boyd’s return later this week.

X-rays were negative. If Trout, who left today’s game in the eighth inning, needs Monday off, the Angels will likely use Bryce Teodosio in center field.

The Marte party. He also scored a run in this one, but it was his RBI two-bagger off Joel Payamps to score Jorge Barrosa that fantasy managers will be please as punch to see. The 32-year-old has scuffled in the early portion of the year, but it’d be more surprising than not if we see many more games like this in 2026.

Burns was outstanding in his debut against the Pirates on Monday, and was just as good — if not better — in the follow up. He threw three pitches over 100 mph and was routinely over 99 with his heater, and he generated an outstanding 21 swings and misses. The only mistake was a pitch left in the zone to Joc Pederson, and unfortunately that prevented Burns from picking up a win. He’s an absolute must-start Friday for a scheduled matchup against the Angels.

Revenge is best served at high altitude. Moniak was the first-overall pick by the Phillies all the way back in 2016, and to say he didn’t live up to expectations is quite an understatement. He’s found success in Colorado, however, and he launched a pair of 430-foot blasts off Taijuan Walker for his first two homers of the campaign. Moniak isn’t going to do anything against southpaws, but playing in Coors Field makes him worthy of fantasy consideration in a variety of formats.
