Given that he’s a flyball pitcher with a modest 18.6 percent strikeout rate, it remains very difficult to recommend him in mixed leagues. This is really impressive what he’s doing, though. He’ll take on the Brewers on Sunday.

In the seventh inning, he had a moment he’ll never forget when he roped a line drive to right field for a triple for his first MLB hit. It traveled at 104 mph exit velocity. Ewing had only two home runs in the minor leagues, but can still provide value with a good average and speed.

There is no timetable for his return and fantasy managers should anticipate a lengthy absence. The 24-year-old contact-oriented shortstop was hitting .292/.311/.398 with three homers, 19 RBI and two steals in 39 games prior to suffering the injury during Sunday’s game against the Orioles. It’ll likely be Darrell Hernaiz taking over at shortstop in his place.

It’s awful timing for Caballero, who officially became the Yankees’ starting shortstop when Anthony Volpe was demoted to Triple-A, rather than activated off the injured list, last week. Volpe will now have an opportunity to make his case for the job. Bauers probably ought to be dropped in leagues in which he was picked up.
