Goal of the night: Erik Christensen’s laser beam beats the Penguins

Chicago Blackhawks v New York Rangers

of the Chicago Blackhawks against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on November 1, 2010 in New York City.

Bruce Bennett

Some nights you can do things with the puck that it seems to fool your eyes with how fast it’s going. In the case of Rangers forward Erik Christensen, he was able to let a wrist shot go with such velocity and such accuracy that it’s stunning to believe that he put it past Penguins goalie Brent Johnson.

That’s not to say that Christensen is a bad shooter or Johnson is a bad goalie, it’s just one of those situations where Christensen was able to harness the powers of a superstar for one moment and score a goal that’s just stunning to see. For Christensen, getting to do it against the team he broke into the NHL with has to make for a pretty nice feeling. The Rangers built off the momentum of this goal to score just a few seconds later when Alexander Frolov stuffed home a rebound as the Rangers rolled to a four-goal third period and the 4-1 victory in Pittsburgh.
